Thankful for Friendships

I had mixed emotions about calling my longtime friend. I wanted to find out how he was doing, but I was scared. Joe (not his real name) was diagnosed with dementia recently. This was my first attempt to contact him since I learned the shocking news.

One call resulted in hearing his answering machine. So a couple weeks later, I mustered up the courage to try the call again.

This time when I connected I heard the sweet words, “Tall Paul,” Joe’s nickname for me. We went on with an awesome conversation.

This man is a man of God. He always quotes Bible verses and challenges me in my relationship with God. Our phone call last week was no different.

I have learned so much from this man. He has taught me passion about prayer and my relationship with God.

He wants to beat dementia with the Lord’s help. He ask me to pray. That’s the least I can do for a dear friend who has helped me and encouraged me so much

Because of his condition, our relationship may be different. But we will always be brothers.

Friendship is a special gift. In this season of Thanksgiving, we can be thankful for dear friends and the  opportunities to touch their lives too.
